Best Website Builder for Short Term Rentals
Wix is the integrated hospitality option, Squarespace works as a presentation layer for an external reservation system, and WordPress offers more control when someone will own the booking stack.
We may earn a commission from one marked provider link on this page. Our commercial policy

Our top picks
The right winner depends on the job.
Each recommendation keeps its most important limitation visible.
Wix
Best for: Operators wanting the website to manage inventory and direct reservations
The strongest integrated option here because Wix Hotels by HotelRunner documents availability, reservations, rates, inventory, a booking engine, and external channel connections.
- Hospitality dashboard for room availability, rates, inventory, and reservations
- Manual or automatic reservation-confirmation controls
Channel behavior and availability vary, and the completed Wix site cannot move intact to another host.
Squarespace
Best for: Rental brands keeping availability in a separate reservation or property system
A focused brand-site choice when an external reservation provider remains authoritative and the site only links to or embeds its booking path.
- Supports links to external booking pages
- Can embed a third-party booking widget with custom code on eligible plans
Custom-code widgets fall outside Squarespace support, and the export does not include the complete site or its operational features.
WordPress + SiteGround
Best for: Teams with a named owner for the booking plugin, data, updates, and recovery
The control option when the operator will select and govern a rental-booking plugin and maintain a separate recovery path for plugin data.
- Booking Calendar is one documented plugin example for availability and reservations
- SiteGround GrowBig documents staging, daily backups, and on-demand backups
The host does not choose, configure, test, export, or recover the booking plugin and its reservation records for you.

Best website builder for short term rentals: choose the system of record
The best website builder for short term rentals depends on where availability and reservations will be authoritative. A site that only presents the property and sends guests to an established property-management or reservation system has a different job from a site that manages room inventory, rates, direct reservations, and booking-channel connections.
Wix is the integrated hospitality option in this comparison because the current Wix Hotels by HotelRunner documentation covers availability, reservations, rates, inventory, a site booking engine, and external booking channels. Squarespace is the presentation-led option when a separate reservation provider remains the system of record. Self-hosted WordPress is the control option when a named owner will choose and maintain the booking plugin, hosting, database, backups, and recovery process.
| Decision | Wix | Squarespace | WordPress + SiteGround |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reservation model | Integrated Wix Hotels by HotelRunner workflow | Link or embed a separate booking provider | Booking behavior comes from the selected plugin |
| Availability owner | Managed in the hospitality dashboard and connected channels | Usually the external reservation or property-management system | The site owner and plugin configuration |
| Portability | The finished Wix site cannot move intact to another host | Only certain content exports; site features and styling do not | Core content exports separately from plugin data and server state |
| Best fit | Operators wanting a hosted hospitality workflow | Brands keeping reservations in another system | Teams with real technical and booking-stack ownership |
Map the complete reservation path before comparing templates
Write down every system that can change availability or accept a reservation. Include the direct site, each marketplace, the property-management system, any channel manager, and every manual calendar. Choose one authoritative inventory record, then document what each connection sends, receives, and how the team will detect a delay or failed update.
A provider statement about channel connections does not prove that every required channel is supported on every plan or that every connection behaves identically. Wix says the number of channel connections varies by plan. The Booking Calendar plugin listing describes calendar synchronization, but that statement alone does not establish direction, frequency, or conflict handling for a particular configuration. Verify those details for the exact channels the property uses.
- Inventory: property or room types, blocked dates, minimum stays, rates, and availability.
- Reservation: search, guest details, confirmation, payment, cancellation, and refund ownership.
- Connections: supported channels, synchronization direction, timing, errors, and fallback.
- Data: reservation, guest, payment, analytics, and consent records with separate export paths.
- Operations: who changes a rate, resolves a conflict, answers a guest, and contacts support.
When Wix is the strongest integrated rental option
Wix documents the current Wix Hotels by HotelRunner app as a central place to manage room availability, reservations, rates, and inventory, along with connections to external booking channels. Its reservation settings let an operator choose manual or automatic confirmation and control details requested from guests. That makes it the clearest integrated starting point here when the website itself will participate in hospitality operations.
Integration also increases platform dependence. The reviewed documentation does not establish taxes, legal compliance, payment availability in every country, or identical behavior for every channel. Wix also states that a Wix site depends on its infrastructure and cannot be moved intact to another host. Treat a future change as an operating-data migration and rebuild, not a design export.
When Squarespace should remain the presentation layer
Squarespace documents Acuity for appointments and classes, plus two broader patterns: link to an external booking page or embed a third-party booking widget with custom code. For an overnight rental, the defensible use is a brand and content site that hands the reservation to a property-management, channel-management, or booking service built for lodging inventory.
Do not infer overnight inventory, multi-night rules, or channel synchronization from Acuity appointment scheduling. Squarespace also says custom-code booking widgets fall outside its support scope and may not remain fully compatible with every responsive design or platform update. Assign someone to test the link or embed after site and provider changes, and keep a visible fallback contact route.
When WordPress control justifies the booking-stack work
WordPress core supplies publishing and account management; booking behavior comes from a plugin. Booking Calendar is one documented example rather than a universal winner. Its WordPress.org listing describes rental availability calendars, booking forms, reservation administration, calendar synchronization, and booking details stored in the site's WordPress database. Other capabilities can depend on the selected tier and configuration.
The site owner must evaluate the plugin, keep it current, test compatibility, protect the database, and prove that backups contain both the site and the booking records. SiteGround is the only compensated destination on this page and is included as one managed WordPress hosting option. Hosting features can reduce server and release work, but they do not select or govern the booking plugin or prove that its data can be restored.
Run a reservation proof without risking a real guest
Use a trial, staging site, test property, or dates that cannot be sold. The goal is to understand the real path before public inventory depends on it. Do not charge a real guest simply to test the website.
- Create a test property or block dates so the proof cannot expose real inventory.
- Search for availability and follow a direct reservation to the last safe step before a live charge.
- Confirm the reservation or request appears in the expected administration system.
- Check the guest-facing and internal notifications and record which addresses receive them.
- If manual and automatic confirmation are available, test both with controlled records.
- Document who handles a cancellation, refund, sync conflict, and provider support request.
- Repeat the critical path after a channel, plan, plugin, template, or payment change.
Inventory the exit path as separate assets
Website content, property records, reservations, guest data, images, the domain, channel credentials, payment records, and analytics often live in different systems. Ask for a sample export from each system before committing and confirm that the fields are useful to the person who would run a migration or answer a guest dispute.
Wix says creators own their content while the finished site remains dependent on Wix infrastructure. Squarespace exports certain content to a WordPress-format XML file but excludes calendar and store pages, styling, and other elements. WordPress's WXR export covers core content such as posts, pages, fields, taxonomies, menus, and users; it does not by itself prove an export of media files, themes, plugins, plugin tables, or server configuration.
How we reviewed this short-term-rental comparison
This is an official-source operating-fit comparison, not a claim that WebmastersGallery connected a property, processed a reservation, audited a channel, or tested product performance. Product statements reflect the provider and plugin documentation below as checked July 28, 2026.
Plans, connections, payment options, plugin capabilities, and support boundaries change. Verify the exact configuration and export path before moving live inventory. Wix, Squarespace, and Booking Calendar are non-compensated destinations. The SiteGround destination is an affiliate link and is labeled at the point of action.
